Alan Ferguson

Scottish-born musician and composer who arrived in Western Australia in the early 1970s, bringing a deep grounding in traditional Scottish and Irish music and command of multiple instruments — bagpipes, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, tenor banjo, whistle, and keyboard. A member of the Perth folk band The Quarefellows in the mid-1970s, the group was later renamed The Settlers, recording the 1979 album Bound for Western Australia. Among his collaborative works is The Diggings Are Silent, a suite of poems rooted in Western Australia's gold rush history, for which he composed and arranged the music.
