Wendy Evans

Wendy Evans was a Western Australian Welsh-born artist, writer, journalist, and musician whose work was rooted in the landscape and culture of regional Western Australia — the Pilbara, the goldfields, the folk music scene of the 1980s. A geologist, landscape painter, cartographic artist, teacher, reporter, and entertainment manager, just to name a few — yet wrote across every form she encountered: novels, short stories, poetry, plays, journalism, songs.

Her collaboration with composer Alan Ferguson on The Diggings Are Silent became a musical narrative capturing the voices of ordinary people who lived through the goldfields era. She died in 2008, leaving behind a substantial body of unpublished work now being preserved and released by her family as the Collected Works of Wendy Evans.
